Colonnata – The Colonnata lard
The Colonnata lard is produced in Colonnata, it is a small village in the province of Massa Carrara
at the foot of the Apuan Alps.
It is located in the area called Gioia Calagio characterized by the marble quarries scattered throughout
The town has very ancient origins dating back to 47 BC. where it was used as accommodation for slaves
who they worked on the extraction of marble, used in great Roman works.
The country is very characteristic and it seems to go back to a bygone era, the country has kept the
ancient works all in marble.
But the real protagonist of Colonnata is the lard from Colonnata, they are present throughout the country
shops and tasting corners.
In the periods of July and August it is not possible to reach the town by car, there is a shuttle to the
transport to the town, the car can be left in the large parking lot near the town.
