Talking about Palio dei Micci
Talking about Palio dei Micci in Querceta, a town close to the Apuan alps, a hamlet in the municipality of Seravezza
Palio dei Micci is a folkloristic event famous throughout the Tuscany region for its cultural value linked to popular tradition that lead us to relive societies from Middle Ages Renaissance
The Micci in the Versilian dialect means Donkey
Talking about Palio dei Micci
It usually takes place every year around the first Sunday of May at the Stadium del Buon Riposo in Pozzi- Querceta
This year on May 4th I attend the 68Th edition
You can enter after buying ticket 15 € to watch the parade but without being able to sit down except on te grass that surrounds the outside og the sports field
The view from The stage was definetly better but unfortunately it was all occupied !
Talking about Palio dei Micci
It begins with the announcement by the speaker of the name of each contrada, yes because the 8 contradas compete with each other to have the trophy
Each contrada represents the fractions or localities that include parts of the municipality of Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta or Seravezza
The costumes of the participants have two colors plus a third to complement them.
The colors important that are not only taken up in the clothes but also in the flags and the coats of arms
The participants parade after the announcement of the speaker who names the contrada to which they belong and parading with clothes of unique beauty
elegant colors every year they invent special figures in addition to the drummers to the trumpet players we have the king and Queen of the contrada
and in the background other representative figures of society that they intend to represent
Talking about Palio dei Micci
Palio dei Micci struck me above all for the richness and beauty of the clothes so rich in details and colors
I was struck by each figure that offers the image of each character of the society of the time : King and Qeen Juggglers the widow the merchants
The children the newborns the flag-wavers the trumpeters the drummers. Each figure walked in an orderly position and above all the drummrs offered a series of movements between them almost a synchronized dance to the rhythm of their drums
About the Micci
Who are the Micci? The donkeys. Just before entering the stadium on the right I saw a whole series of donkeys at least 8 like the districts involved stationary before entering for the race
They are ridden by jockeys designated to partecipate in the Micci race which usually takes place in the evening after the parades of the figurants Each district will be judged for a whole series of characteristics such as the beauty of the clothes the figurants and the idea of creating the character the dancing the synchronization the choreography winning the Palio in addition of course to the Miccio who will win the race
Finally ....always Talking about Palio dei Micci
Finally Talking about Palio dei Micci established in 1956 and today it is still an event of the Versilian tradition. I recommend going to see the Palio dei Micci for those who love reenactments to understand how each men of Tuscany biased and the nature of those who have a Tuscan descent it's fun to whatch the donkeys race, it's nice to see how an entire community and so small gives life to such an event.
