Thanks to the contribution of the municipalities of Pietrasanta and Montignoso Lake Porta Protected Natural Area of Natural Interest was established i  1998.

Its boundaries were defined and with the support  of these municipalities and important environmental associations a management committee was established to enhance and protect the area
